George Ann, 3, dau, b.KS, dad b.OH, mom b.PA. S. B. Hatfield was born in Pickaway county, Ohio, Dec. 25, 1828. In 1849 he was married to Miss Mary Bunn, and in 1855 they came to Brown county, Kan., and homesteaded the land known as the Spring Grove farm, now owned by Frank Haflich. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hatfield, seven of whom are still living. These are: Henry A., of Belleville, Kan.; Mrs. Hannah Dixon, Mary Parker, and Ira, of Chico, Calif.; Mrs. Ida Steward, of Piedmont, Kan.; C. W., of Nemaha county, and Mrs. Eva Robbins, of Fairview. With this last named daughter the father has made his home during the past three years. The wife, and mother of these children, passed on to her reward about 19 years ago. Some ten years ago Mr. Hatfield remarried and this wife also passed on before, three years ago this coming January. Brother Hatfield and his first wife were faithful members of the Old Fairview Congregational church and when the Plymouth Congregational church of Fairview was organized some 17 years ago, he became one of the charter members, and has ever been a consistent, faithful and unassuming Christian. For several years Mr. Hatfield has had very poor health and three years ago, at the time of his wife's death, none of us expected he could possibly live more than a few days or weeks at most. For the past two months he has been failing gradually and the end came Friday morning, Nov. 23, at 3 o'clock as peacefully as a child falling asleep in its mothers arms. His death was just as he had lived, peaceful and quiet. He longed to go and told us five minutes before he left us that he was going, but there was perfect trust and confidence and not a tremor of fear or doubt. The funeral services were held Sabbath morning, Nov. 25, 1906, in the Baptist church conducted by Rev. J. P. Campbell, Mr. Hatfield's pastor, assisted by Rev. Mr. Hunsicker, of the Reformed church, and Rev. K. Jellin, of the Baptist church. Interment in the Old Fairview cemetery.—Cont. — The Brown County World (Hiawatha, KS), Fri Nov 30, 1906, p.16. This may be his father -not sure.
