Bio

Cordell Vandagriff 3/21/1920 - 12/25/2017 Cordell (Thomason) Vandagriff, 97, went to be with her Lord on December 25, 2017, while residing at Briarcliff Health Center. She was born in Greenville, Texas on March 21, 1920 to Wesley and Gladys Thomason. She is survived by her son, Jerry Wattenbarger and wife, Kay, her daughter Judy Hodges and husband Warren, step-son, Ricky Cook and wife Sue, grandchildren, Shelly Wattenbarger and husband Randall, Michael Wattenbarger and wife Jennifer, Amanda Hodges McCampbell and daughter Reagan, Clay Hodges, Grant Hodges, Wayne Wattenbarger, Shanda Wattenbarger, her sister Ila Rice, and numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Welton M. Wattenbarger, Grady Vandagriff and Leeman Cook; her parents; sister, Juanita Winterbauer; brother, Allen Thomason; and son, James Paul Wattenbarger. Cordell was deeply religious and was an active member of the Highland Terrace Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas. While at Briarcliff, she loved going to their Sunday service and attending the various activities they offered. She was also admired for her amazing cooking talent. Especially her delicious Christmas candy. All of her grandchildren loved the special treats she gave them each Christmas, placed into their own homemade elves. Cordell loved to travel and took many trips. She always greeted anyone she would meet, even in her final days, with a smile, a twinkle in her eye, and a warmth in her heart. She was blessed with an abundance of friends that she cared for deeply. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. The family wants to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Briarcliff for the care and love given to our Mom. We especially want to thank her hospice caretaker, Brandy, for the excellent care she gave to our Mom. She went far and above to make Mom's twilight years full of love, comfort and joy. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Royce Litchfield and Rev. John Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Caddo Mills I. O. O. F. Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
