MEISSNER, EDUART JOHANN (EDD) The Hamilton Herald-News 12/02/1999 Eduart Johann (Edd) Meissner, 93, died Nov. 24, 1999, in College Station after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Sat., Nov. 27, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in College Station with Rev. Erich M. Schaefer officiating. Burial was in the Rock Church Cemetery in Cranfills Gap. He was born June 6, 1906, near Miles, Texas, Runnels County, to Wilhelm Friedrich Otto Meissner and Clara Hermine Petrick Meissner. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles on Aug. 26, 1906, by the Rev. W. M. Hertel and confirmed on April 24, 1921, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aleman by the Rev. E. F. Moerbe. He attended school in Aleman, where he was a member of a winning basketball team. He met his wife to-be, Leona Ella Neie, at a church meeting at the Angleton school house (between Jonesboro and Lanham) and they were married at her fathers' home near Cranfills Gap on Sept. 5, 1928, by the Rev. E. M. Zabel. Edd and Leona farmed in Hamilton County near Cranfills Gap in Hamilton County. They had three daughters and attended St. Olaf's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, his daughters' basketball games, and supporting the Cranfills Gap football team. In 1983 they moved to a home near the Brazos River near Bryan and joined the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in College Station. On Sept. 5, 1998, the Meissners enjoyed a 70th year wedding anniversary at the church. Mr. Meissner's health began to decline and in October, 1998, he moved to the Southwood Care Center in College Station. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and their husbands, Doris Aliene and Martin Carlson and Margie Nell and A. P. Boyd, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and four great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Edline Lucille Whetstone. He was the last remaining member of his parents' family after a sister died earlier this year at the age of 100. Memorials may be made to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, The Rock Church Cemetery Fund, or to the donors favorite charitable organization.
