Fort Bend Herald, December 3, 2017: Funeral services for Clara Zapalac, 85, of Orchard will be held at 11:30am on Monday, Dec 4, 2017 at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis, Texas with Father Thuy (Twee) Quang Nguyen celebrating the funeral mass and rite of committal. Interment will be in the Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Zapalac, Elijah Zapalac, Dylan Zapalac, Brody Zapalac, Ethan Zapalac, Cameron Zapalac, Jay King, and Eric King. Clara was born in Guy, Texas on Jan. 4, 1932, to Joseph and Rosie Gritzmann. She attended school in Guy and typically walked 5 miles to and from school each day. On Oct. 14, 1953, Clara was joined in marriage to Alvin Zapalac with a ceremony held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville. Clara was a hard working housewife who raised 4 sons, one daughter, and one niece. Clara always loved being outdoors. She always maintained a massive garden which would allow her to give the extra vegetables to family and friends. She raised chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, and milk cows. She milked a cow daily to provide milk and butter for the family. Clara was very social and outgoing and would always make sure that any guests were well feed and taken care of. She was also well known for her homemade egg noodle chicken soup. She made her own noodles and could also make wonderful strudels and bread. Clara understood the importance of education and made sure that her children attended school each day. Clara was a member of the Catholic Daughters and loved to work at the church bingo games. Clara Zapalac passed away on Dec. 1, 2017 in her home in Orchard. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rosie Gritzmann, her sisters Lillie Eixmann and Agnes Lukasik and her husband Alvin Zapalac. Clara is survived by two sisters, Annie Poncik and Frances Pekar. She is also survived by daughter Gayle Renee Stewart and husband Shawn of Hutto; niece Rose Ann King of Orchard, sons Kenneth Wayne Zapalac and wife Katherine of Cedar Park; Ricky Alan Zapalac and wife Judy of Orchard; Alvin Mark Zapalac and wife Rebecca of Orchard; and Elvis John Zapalac and wife Debbie of East Bernard. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Sarah and husband Jamie Reber, Sadie and husband Jeremiah Bowling, Samantha, Alan, Brody, Dylan, Elena, Claudia, Elijah, Emma, Camille, Ethan, and Cameron Zapalac, Sydney and Rylee Stewart, Jay and Eric King, and great granddaughter Reese Reber. Funeral services will be under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapel, 122 North FM 1093 in Wallis, 979-478-6311.
