A Funeral Mass for Frances Gritzman Pekar, age 90, of Damon, TX, will be 10 AM Monday, August 17, 2020, at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 603 Mulcahy Avenue, Damon, TX 77430, with Father David Zapalac officiating. Burial will follow in the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church Cemetery, Damon, TX. Visitation will be 5 - 6:00 PM Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 1201 Fourth Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471, with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 PM Sunday. Due to Covid-19 concerns and restrictions, social distancing/facial masks are required and attendance is limited. She was born Frances Gritzman on June 30, 1930, in Guy, TX, to Joseph and Rosie Gritzman. She died August 10, 2020, in Richmond, TX. Frances attended Richmond High School, graduating in 1948. On June 1, 1949, she married Jerry Paul Pekar. They worked the family farm together until he preceded her in death at 61 years of age. She was a loving mother to three children: Jerry Wayne, Gilbert, and Katherine. Frances was a faithful member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Damon, TX, and a member of KJZT Altar Society. For her entire life, she was very devoted and caring to her family. She enjoyed sewing and embroidering, gardening and canning, and doing kind deeds for others. She grew bountiful crops of figs and lemons each year, making fig jelly and lemon pies. Frances worked for 10 years at the Richmond State School, before retiring in 1995. Always a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Pekar; parents, Joseph and Rosie (Fojtik) Gritzman; sisters, Lillian Eixmann, Agnes Lukasik, Clara Zapalac, and Anne Poncik. Survivors include her 3 children, Jerry Wayne Pekar and wife, Patsy, Gilbert Pekar, and Katherine Minter and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Reagan Minter, Amanda Miller and husband, Alex, Lisa Flores and husband, Thomas, Jacob Pekar and wife, Audrey, and Rebecca Pekar; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Ian Miller, Nicolas and Jaime Flores, and Cade and Ellie Pekar; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Donations may be given in her memory to Alzheimers Research, Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, or to a Charity of Choice.
