Herald Coaster, January 29, 2004: Funeral services for Alvin B. Zapalac, 75, of Orchard, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis, with the Rev. Richard Johnston S.C.J. celebrating the funeral mass and rite of committal. Interment was in the Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Andy Pietrowski, Jerry Smidovic Jr., Larry Smidovec, Gilbert Pekar, Roger Hering, and James Trojanowski. Alvin was born in Frydek to parents Frank and Amalie Pavlicek Zapalac. He was raised in the Frydek area and attended schools in Frydek and Burleigh. On Oct. 14, 1953, Mr. Alvin Zapalac was joined in marriage to Miss Clara Gritzman with a ceremony held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville. Alvin worked for Fort Bend County Precinct 4 for 35 years, first as a mechanic, then as a supervisor. He was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and K.J.T. Alvin B. Zapalac passed away Friday Jan. 23, 2004 in Richmond. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Amalie Zapalac; sisters, Agnes Lamer, Mary Bielec, Stephanie Chovanec, Martha Trojanowski, Mollie Smidovec, Clara Zapalac, Gertrude Zapalac, and Albina Gajewski Hammond; and brothers, Ignac, August, and Frankie Zapalac. He is survived by his wife, Clara Zapalac of Orchard; daughters, Gayle Renee Stewart and husband, Shawn, of Pflugerville, and Roseann King of Orchard; sons, Kenneth Wayne Zapalac and wife, Katherine, of Austin, Ricky Alan Zapalac and wife, Judy, of Orchard, Alvin Mark Zapalac and wife, Rebecca, of Orchard, Elvis John Zapalac and wife, Debbie, of East Bernard; sister, Rose Hering and husband, Earl, of Sealy; and Frances Lastovica. He is also survived by grandchildren, Sarah, Sadie, Samantha, Alan, Camille, Ethan, Cameron, Dylan, Brody, Claudia, and Elijah Zapalac, and Jay King Jr. Funeral services were under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapel, 122 North FM 1093 in Wallis. 979-478-6311.
