Bio

Howard Young of Indianola died Tuesday at the McAlester Regional Hospital. He was 62. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Interment will be at Choate Prairie Cemetery under direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be James Fink, Calvin Carney, Ralph Weddle, Louis Butler, Loy Factor and B. J. Polk. Young was born May 10, 19328 at Mt. Levi, Ark. to Joseph N. and Sarah Jenetta Owen Young. He moved to Indianola as a child, where he lived all his life. On July 8, 1950 he and Florene Russell were married at Charleston, Ark. Young worked for Pittsburg County District No. 3 for several years and then the Oklahoma State Highway Dept., where he retired in 1989. Survivors include two daughters and a son in law, Sharon and Paul McDaniel of Krebs and Debbie Young of Indianola; three sons and daughters in law, Ronnie and Eileen Young, Richard and Debbie Young and Jeff and Mary Young, all of McAlester; three sisters, Earlene Bollinger of Oklahoma City, Geraldine Bollinger of McAlester and Jewell Shaffer of Marana, Ariz.; a brother, Mitchell Young of Midwest City; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Young was preceded in death by his wife Florene Young; his parents; a brother, James "Sonny" Young; sisters, Martha Harris and Sarah Edna Young and a granddaughter, Cheryl Jeanetta Young.
