Bio

Ronald Gene "Ronnie" Young was born 11 Feb 1954 to Howard Newton and Florene (Russell) Young in McAlester, Oklahoma. He graduated from high school in 1972 at Indianola. He worked with his father on bulldozers, doing dirt and concrete work, and he was currently serving as the Pittsburg County District 3 Commissioner which he was elected in July 2010 and sworn in January 2011. He loved working on cars and began working in a garage in 1972, on and off. He also worked for the county in the 70's driving equipment. He bought the shop business in 1980 and owned and operated as a mechanic at Young Auto Repair for over 30 years before his election. He loved taking trips with his son and grandson to Arkansas and Missouri and just sitting around on the weekends and watching gunsmoke, rifleman, and Hee Haw and cooking steaks all together or just coming back down to the shop and sharing his wisdom on cars his son would work on. He enjoyed fishing, boating, restoring cars, attending car shows, playing guitar, and spending time with family members and friends. He is survived by one son, Joseph (Joe) Dean Young and girlfriend Marlana O'Dell, of McAlester; one grandson, Colten Dean Young, of Stuart; brothers, Richard Allen Young and wife Genlynn, of McAlester, and Jeffrey Lynn Young, of McAlester; sisters, Sharon Kay McDaniel and husband, Paul, of McAlester, and Debra Joyce Young, of Indianola; nieces Kimberly Young, Crystal Robinson, Jamie Standstipher, Melanie Clark and husband Greg, Dina Greer and husband Walt, nephews Greg Young and wife Brook, Jeff Young and wife Amber, Brian West, Robby Hance and wife Holly; girlfriend, Linda Ketchum, and numerous other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Florene Young; an infant daughter, Cheryl Jeanette Young, and a nephew, Daillson Young. Pallbearers were Sheriff Joel Kerns, Paul Watkins, Neil Johnson, Jim Crosthwait, Billy Phillips and Ron Thornhill. Honorary Pallbearers were Gene Rogers, Kevin Smith, Jimmy Corder, Bruce Thompson, Lynn Weeks, Jerry Lamb, ron McCoy, and Charlie Isenhower. Ronnie was buried at Choate Prairie Cemetery in Indianola, Oklahoma 13 August 2013.
