Bio

William enlisted in August of 1861 in Chicago, and was a Union soldier in Company G, 37th Illinois Infantry (the "Freemont Rifles"). They were sent to Missouri to drive out the rebel forces, and during their first winter they suffered heavy losses, not from the enemy, but from the winter conditions they were unprepared for. William was one such casualty, who died at home in Chicago, while on convalescent leave. He is buried in the plot with his mother, stepfather and other relatives.
