Bio

Rose was the daughter of John and Ursula Gates. Rose married, first, James B. Corneille (c.1833 Ireland-c.1884 Chicago), and they had three daughters: Frances Jesse 1874-1961; Regina Josephine 1878-1946; and Marion Priscilla 1883-1942, all born in Chicago. She then married Robert C. Payne of Canada 1841-1898, and they had two boys and a girl: Edward Covy 1887-1961; Robert S. 1888-1912; and Lillian I. 1895-1984. Edward, the oldest Payne child was born in Chicago. The other two were born in Canada. After Robert's death in 1898, Rose returned to the United States, and lived with her daughter, Lillian's family in Missouri.
