Bio

Ursula was born in England and was in America before 1831, when her first daughter was born in New York. She married, first, William Johnson. They had 6 children: Ann 1831-1910; Elizabeth 1834-?; Matilda 1836-1842; William V. 1838-1862; Thomas M. 1841-1919; and John J. 1843-1845. (Birth information of children from Freestone family bible.) William died in Madison County, but his place of burial is unknown. After the death of William Johnson, Ursula married John Gates. They had 4 children: Alice M. 1845-1915; Daniel J. 1847-1933; Ada E. 1850-1915; and Rose C. 1852-1936. They lived in Minerva, Essex County, New York. In 1856 they moved to Bowmanville (annexed into the city of Chicago in 1890), where they remained. Ursula is buried with her second husband, John Gates, her son, William Valoris Johnson, her grandson, Willie Johnson, and her niece, Susan Freestone, the daughter of her brother, Thomas Freestone.
