SCOTIA — Alvin W. Miller, 75, of Scotia passed away on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. The Rev. Mark Middendorf will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Scotia. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangement. Alvin Webster Miller was born March 8, 1942, at Miller, Neb., to Franklin Webster and Vava Vera (Fox) Miller. He lived in a sod house until the family moved to Brewster. Alvin attended school through the eighth grade at Brewster and then attended the ninth and 10th grades at Burwell. He worked on several ranches in the Brewster, Taylor and Burwell areas. On Nov. 4, 1959, Alvin was united in marriage to Karron Deloris Amos in Denver. To this union four sons were born: Alvin James, Roy Dean, Ronald Clifford and Franklin Lee. In November 2006, they adopted their great-grandson, Alvin Nathaniel. In November 2009, Alvin and Karron celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary and renewed their vows of marriage. Alvin and Karron started their married life in Burwell and later moved to Scotia. Alvin worked for Rodeo Telephone Co., which later became Nebraska Central Telephone Co., for 36 years, where he was the office manager and telephone repairman. Alvin also raised cattle, hogs and did custom haying. He had his own trenching, plumbing and electrical company. Alvin also worked as a Greeley County deputy sheriff for several years. Alvin and Karron operated the Miller and Sons Buggy Restoration and Upholstery Shop. Alvin was a proud member of the Scotia Volunteer Fire Department for 57 years. Alvin was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on Dec. 3, 1967, and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. His hobbies included camping, boating, fishing, hunting and restoring buggies and sleighs. His greatest joys were seeing his boys’ accomplishments. He was very proud of each and every one of his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Survivors of the immediate family include five sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin James of Watertown, S.D., Roy Dean and Sarah of Oakland, Neb., Ronald Clifford and Donna of Ramstein, Germany, Franklin Lee and Dana of Valentine and Alvin Nathaniel of Valentine; eight grandchildren, Alvin Gregory Miller, Miranda Leigh and Joey Patek, Alyssa Ann and Cory Wohlleber, all of Watertown, S.D., Shane Michael and Mara Miller of Maplewood, Minn., Eric Dean Miller of Cozad, Heidi Beth, Brent Roy and Layne Augustus Miller, all of Oakland, Jessica Lynn and Gregory Roseland, and Josephine Anne Miller, all of Bellevue and KayLynn Deloris, Cody Franklin and Casey William Miller, all of Valentine; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores Davis of Tyndall, S.D.; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Allen F. Miller of Burwell, Howard G. and Linda Miller of Hastings and Patricia Miller of Ord; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty J. and Richard Meyer of Burwell; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Karron Deloris, who passed away on Sept. 3, 2010; a beloved grandson, Ronald William Miller, in October of 2002; his parents, Franklin W. Miller and Vava V. Miller-Doty; his stepfather, James “Bill” Doty; father-in-law and mother-in-law Lorne L. and Leola H. Amos; a brother, Joseph W. Miller; and three brothers-in-law, Stanley R. Scott, LaVern D. Amos and Karrol D. Amos.
