George Harrison Morris was born on July 24, 1889, in Wayne County, Tennessee, to James Carroll Morris and Rebecca Hinton Morris. He grew up in a family of modest means, and tragedy struck early in his life when his father passed away in 1900 due to a parasitic infection. His mother, Rebecca, supported the family, and George had several siblings: ML Morris, Noah Franklin, Nancy Pairlee, Ben Thomas, and Sarah Ada. On November 14, 1909, George married Mary Ellen "Molly" Berry, and they settled down in Wayne County, Tennessee. George worked as a wage earner on a farm, and in the early years of their marriage, the family lived on Second Creek Road in Wayne County, with George's mother. However, their hard work and dedication paid off, and they eventually owned and worked on their own farm on Weatherford Creek Road. The land and small ancestral home have been passed down through the generations, with George's descendants still owning part of the property to this day. George and Molly were blessed with several children, all of whom were commonly known by their middle names: Elvie Inez, Lady Ruth, Gilford Ray, James Lawton, Hazel Juanita, Essie Marie, Raymond Frederick, Ellen Maedon, Beatrice, Billie Lewis, Arley Rex, and Infant Daughter. Tragically, James Lawton Morris, took his own life in 1934. Hazel Juanita also passed away in 1920 due to dysentery. Arley Rex died when he was less than a year old and their baby, Infant Daughter died at birth. On July 16, 1934, Molly passed away due to complications during childbirth, suffering from puerperal sepsis. This was a devastating loss for George and their children. He faced the challenge of raising their children on his own. Later in his life, George had a relationship with Ester Eaton, who was over 30 years his junior. Together, they had two children in the 1940s, Jimmy Howard Eaton and Eva Mae Morris-Eaton. Tragically, Ester passed away in 1954, and George assumed legal guardianship of Jimmy and Eva. During his later years, George spent time living with his adult children, primarily in Michigan. He would stay with each household for a few months before moving on to the next. His grandchildren have fond memories of their time with him. George Harrison Morris passed away on June 3, 1966, in Lauderdale County, Alabama. He was laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery in Cypress Inn, Tennessee, next to his beloved wife, Molly. Throughout his life, George faced challenges, including the loss of loved ones, but he persevered and left a lasting legacy through his descendants, who continue to cherish their ancestral home.
