Died as a result of injuries in the Civil War. According to estate papers he died in 1864. Probate of the estate lasted until 1866 with disputes between the administrator representing the widow Rebecca King and the surviving children. These court battles continued for quite a few years. Info provided by contributor # 48363002 - He enlisted in the 25th N.C. Infantry Regiment, Co. A, Edney's Greys, on 5-15-1861. He was discharged 5-26-1862 after providing James W. King as a substitute. He re-enlisted in the same regiment and company on 12-24-1863. He was captured some time in November or December of 1864, probably during the Siege of Petersburg. The books in N.C. Troops state that he was captured some time between March and December 1864. The National Archives records first report him as "absent in the hands of the enemy" on the November to December 1864 muster roll. There are no Federal records regarding his capture or imprisonment. There are no further Confederate military records. Based on these records, it is believed that he died about December 1864 near Richmond Va. John Jones King could be buried in Henderson County, perhaps at King's Grove, but as of yet, no documentation has been found. I doubt he is there because surely the family would have erected a stone for him. He more than likely died in Virginia as a result of the war and is buried there. There were heavy losses and many mass graves. It is claimed that Rebecca is buried at King's Grove, but there is no record or stone. Married Rebecca Stepp- daughter of James Stepp and Fannie Jones. She had died by 1866 when her estate was settled. Their children: Hiram Woodfin King 1844–1935 James William King 1845–1886 John Dillard King 1848–1919 Samuel Morgan King 1850–1933 Joseph Underwood King 1852–1917 Mary Adelaide King 1856–1947
