Columbian Sunday, August 29, 1993 Katherine N. Surbeck Washougal - Katherine N. Surbeck, who celebrated her 100th birthday in July, died in Vancouver care home Thursday, Aug. 26, 1993. Mrs. Surbeck was born July 7, 1893 in Washougal. A lifelong Clark County resident, she formerly owned the General Merchandise Store in Washougal. An extensive traveler both overseas and in the United States, she and her husband visited every state except Maine and North Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold in 1967, and a son, Howard, in 1959. Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie Allen of Washougal; a sister, Frieda Kersey of Camas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas. A private family graveside service will be at Washougal Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Camas-Washougal Historial Society.
