Douglas “Doug” Beran, 65, of Grand Island, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, July 24, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Marty Egging will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Doug was born on July 3, 1952, in Grand Island, son of Joseph and Lucille (Fortin) Beran. As a longtime Grand Island resident, Doug received his education from Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Walnut Jr. High and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1970. After graduation, Doug followed in his father’s footsteps and was employed by Western Electric, moving to Salt Lake City, Utah, for a short period of time. He returned to Grand Island, and in 1976, he began his employment with Diamond Engineering. For the last 41 years, he was a devoted employee and retired as the paving superintendent in June 2017. On Oct. 20, 1984, he was united in marriage to Cindy Mossman at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was blessed with two daughters and three grandchildren. Doug was a devoted family man. He loved and supported them and was present at every sporting event and school activity. Doug was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, having been baptized and married at the church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. In his younger days, he spent many summers playing fast pitch and slow pitch softball. He also enjoyed shooting pool and spending time in the outdoors. Time at the lake was best spent boating, fishing or just camping. Doug was a Royals baseball fan and every summer the family would make their way to Kansas City for a home game. He was also a Husker football fan and loved watching the games from a skybox. Doug’s memory is cherished by his wife, Cindy of Grand Island; daughters, Vanessa Bardales of Grand Island and Hannah Beran of Omaha; grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia and Dominic; sister, Pam (Randy) Kendall of Grand Island; father- and mother-in-law, Lee and Betty Mossman of Grand Island; in-laws, Barbara “LoAnn” Beran of Shenandoah, Iowa, Cathy (Bob) White of Cameron Park, Calif., Mark (Mitzi) Mossman of Glennwood, Iowa,Stephen Mossman of Lincoln and Terri (Steve) Beck of Grand Island; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marge and Karla Beran; and brother, Joe Beran.
