Bio

Our "Sweet Loraine" left this earth for her Heavenly home on May 28,2012 at Christopher House in Austin, Texas after battling ovarian cancer for three years. She was born to Albina Annie Leshikar and Louis Edward Valenta on October 19, 1933 in Taylor, Texas. A 1950 graduate of Taylor High School, Loraine married her high school sweetheart A.J. "Mac" McCarty, III on December 3, 1950. The couple was blessed with two wonderful daughters and sixty-one plus years of happiness together. Early in the marriage, Loraine and Mac managed the family business, Valenta Grocery and Market in Taylor. After selling the business, Loraine worked for the Taylor Independent School District for six years. In 1968 the couple moved to Austin and Loraine began a long and successful career as a State Warrants Auditor for the Texas Highway Department which culminated with her retirement in 1993. The Covenant Presbyterian Church played a huge role in Loraine's life. There she was an active member of the Sarah Elizabeth Circle where she made dear friends that provided love, spiritual support and physical care during her illness. Loraine enjoyed Bible study, gardening, reading, singing and political involvement. In High School Loraine participated in the Green Jackets' Pep Squad, was a member of the Choir and graduated third in her class. In Austin she was a past president of the Travis Republican Women of Austin where she was recognized as their nominee for the Tribute to Women Award to the Texas Federated Republican Women Dallas Convention in 2010. The Texas Public Employees' Association was also very dear to her heart where she was active in protecting and working to improve the benefits of state retirees. If you had to describe Loraine in one word it would be "Friend." She truly cared about people and was always willing to help someone. Her school friends will forever be indebted to her for keeping friendships and the class reunions alive and active over the years. She was noted for her "long" phone calls and many acts of kindness which will be greatly missed by all. Loraine is survived by her loving husband, A.J. McCarty, III; brother, Wilbert Valenta and wife, Marie; sister-in-law, Martha Carol Holub; two daughters and their spouses - Phyllis & Bill Allen Jr. and Charlotte & Jim Foster; grandchildren - Stacy Allen Elliott and husband, John, Bryn Allen, Kelsey Allen, Leigh Allen, John Foster and wife, Lindsey, and James Foster; great grandson, Hayden Foster; six nieces, two nephews; and numerous dear cousins. A Memorial Service will be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 2nd of June 2012, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 2433 Ridgepoint Drive, Suite B, Austin, Texas, 78754, Hospice Austin Christopher House, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road Suite 100 Austin, Texas 78759 or the charity of your choice.
