Bio

Petty Officer 2nd Class Valenta, age 93 of Victoria, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, June 23, 2019. He was a veteran of WWII where he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Valenta was a third generation native Texan born Sunday, October 18, 1925 in Taylor, Texas to Louis and Albina (Leshikar) Valenta. In high school, he played on the Taylor Ducks state championship football team. Upon graduation at 17, he joined the US Navy and served on a sub tender in the Pacific theater. On September 2, 1945 he witnessed Japan’s unconditional surrender aboard the USS Proteus in Tokyo Bay. Upon his return, he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering. He married the love of his life Anna Marie “Mamie” (Fuchs) Valenta on June 1, 1947. Their 72-year marriage led to his greatest joy – his family. Mr. Valenta joined the DuPont - Victoria Plant in 1951 and retired after 34 years of dedicated service. He faithfully served as President of First English Lutheran Church in the 1960s. In his golden years, he enjoyed traveling, hiking, spending time with family, and working on his ranch near Schroeder. Burial with military honors under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, EX-POW, MOPH, VVA, and KWV will be Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery (Victoria, TX).
