Memorial services for Elsie Carstensen Joiner, 71, of 2735 E. Locust St., Davenport, are 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Davenport, where she was a member. The body was donated to University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa. Burial is at a later date in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to United Cerebral Palsy Association. McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Joiner died Friday, July 30, 1993, at Keokuk County Health Center, Sigourney, Iowa. The former Elsie Smutny was born Aug, 16, 1921, in Madison, Neb., the daughter of Prokop and Emma Fajmon Smutny. She married Ivan Carstensen Jan. 15, 1941, in Davenport. He died April 2, 1987. She married Kenneth Joiner Nov. 4, 1989, in Davenport. She and her first husband owned and operated Carstensen Photographers, Davenport, for more than 35 years. She enjoyed antiques, collectibles, traveling, and was an accomplished cook and baker. Survivors include the widower; a daughter, Pat Carstensen, Montpelier, Vt.; a stepdaughter, Christine Chapman, Menomonie, Wis.; two stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; sisters, Bessie Bove, Madison, Neb., and Libby Kreitman and Helen Bezdek, both in Nebraska; and a brother, Lud Smutny, Madison.
