Found in The Times and Democrat on April 8, 2005: Paul Michael "Mickey" Urbanek Sr., 57, of West Columbia, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at West Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, with The Reverend Bill Harmon officiating. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum with Military Rites. Born in Richland County, he was a son of the late Paul Charlie and Annie Elizabeth Parker Urbanek. He served in the U.S. Navy fighting during Vietnam, where he served on the USS Valley Forge. Mr. Urbanek was employed at Dixianna Steel Company of West Columbia during the 1980s where he assisted in the architectural design and steel construction of numerous apartment and office buildings, malls and crosswalks throughout the Columbia area. During the 1990s, he was employed by the SC Department of Corrections as Construction Supervisor assisting in the architectural design and steel construction of various Correctional Institutions and State Office buildings throughout South Carolina. During his 35-year profession in the iron and steel industry, he assisted many young people in developing their own craft of the iron and steel business, many of whom have expressed their gratitude for the assistance he provided in helping them establish their own career today. He was preceded in death by his brother Johnny McElrath; and sisters, Barbara Pate and Peggy Stough. Survivors include his wife, Sherian H. Urbanek of West Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Sherian DeAnn Lucas and Paul Anthony "Tony" Lucas Sr., of Lexington; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Michael "Mike" Urbanek Jr. and Stacey B. Urbanek, also of Lexington, Charles "Chuck" Eugene Urbanek and Maria J. Urbanek of West Columbia, Johnny Shane Urbanek Sr. and Deirdre K. Urbanek of Swansea; nine grandchildren, his grandsons include Paul Anthony Lucas, Jr. and Thomas "Tommy" Michael Lucas of Lexington, Johnny Shane Urbanek Jr. and Timothy Mitchell Urbanek of Swansea; his granddaughters include Hayley Karissa Lucas and Jessica Angelica "Angel" Urbanek of Lexington, Tristan Shea Urbanek and Braylin Elise Urbanek of West Columbia and Lauryn Rose Urbanek of Swansea; a brother, Charles Jackson "Jackie" Urbanek of West Columbia; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and his loving canine companions "Casper" and "Something." The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Shives Funeral Home in Columbia.
