Lois was born Lois Sophia Irene Sharp on Jan. 24, 1937, in Salmon, Idaho, to William D. Sharp "Bill" and Sophia I. (Matousek) Sharp. The family moved often and they lived in Salmon, Gooding, Idaho, Grangeville, Stites, Clark Fork, Idaho, and Hamilton, Mont. She graduated from Clark Fork High School in May 14, 1956. Lois met her future husband, Steve D. Burk, in Clark Fork, and they eloped and were married May 14, 1956, in Sandpoint, Idaho, the same day she graduated from high school. Their marriage produced three daughters: Teresa "Teri" Lynn, Sharon Kay and Karen Jean, and an unofficial daughter, Jacque Pistilli (David) Kenney. Steve and Lois later divorced in 1974. Lois loved to dance and met the love of her life, Lee R. Miller "Pops," at the Stables in Lewiston. They married in May 24, 1975. Along with Lois' four girls, Lee "Pops" brought to the marriage a daughter, Julie, and a son, Glen. Lois and Pops were married for 38 years, until his passing of acute myeloid leukemia in 2013. She never accepted Pop's death and missed him greatly. She kept his memory alive through her storytelling of their adventures. Lois worked various jobs in her life, starting as a waitress in Clark Fork while going to high school and working in food service with her mother at St. Joseph Hospital in Lewiston. She also helped her father in secondhand businesses in Lewiston and eventually started working again with her mother at Curly's II. Lois made a career change and started working at the Nez Perce County Courthouse as a switchboard operator. She applied and was hired by the Nez Perce Sheriff's Office as a deputy sheriff of drivers licensing department. In 1976, they decided they needed a change and both of them resigned their positions and moved to Wenatchee so Pops could followed his career as a construction carpenter. In 1997, they moved to Pasco and stayed there for approximately five years. They sold almost everything they owned and bought a pull-behind camper and took off for California. They traveled around California for approximately a year. At that time they moved back to Pasco and lived there for 18 years. Lois took a job as a bookkeeper at Interstate Wheels and Tires until an injury forced her to retire in 1985. They moved to back to Clarkston in 2002 to be closer to her mother and extended family. After her mother's passing in 2004, they made another move to Spangle, Wash., to Pop's dream farm. Lois became ill and they returned back to Clarkston in 2006. In 2007, they adopted our brother Charlie. Even though he was born a cat, they treated him like a son. He passed away a few days prior to Pop's passing. She was preceded in death by husband Lee R. Miller; Charlie the cat; her parents, William and Sofia Sharp; and a sister, Josephine Sharp. Two sisters, Caroline Alice and Pauline Irene, and an infant brother, Norman William, all died in infancy. She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stacy D. Rhodes; great-grandsons Joshua A. Van Pelt and Zander R. Biggins; and a great-granddaughter, Autumn M. Conklin. Lois is survived by her three daughters, two stepchildren; 12 grandchildren; and her sister Beulah. Cremation has already taken place, and she will be laid to rest at a private service at a later date. Lewiston Tribune June13, 2017
