Posted: Tuesday, January 20, 2004 Lewiston Morning Tribune Sophia I. Sharp, 97, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Life Care Center of Lewiston. She was born May 8, 1906, near Sargent, Neb., to Frank and Frances Patocka Matousck, immigrants from Morava, Czechoslovakia. Sophia married William D. Bill Sharp July 2, 1925, in Aurora, Neb. They lived in various areas of Nebraska then in Salmon, Gooding, Grangeville, Stites and Clark Fork, Idaho, and Hamilton, Mont., before settling in Lewiston in 1956. Sophia had a home laundry business while they lived in Grangeville, then began a long career as a restaurant cook in Clark Fork in the early 1950s. She owned a restaurant there for a while. During her years in Lewiston, Sophia cooked at the Raymond Cafe, St. Joseph's Hospital and finally for 16 years at Curly's II before retiring at age 75. Sophia was noted for her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, her hospitality and wonderful home-cooked meals, her continuing interest in the lives and well being of her extended family and friends, and for the hundreds of afghans she made and gave away. She enjoyed traveling with her children as long as she was able. Sophia was preceded in death by her parents; all 12 siblings; husband Bill; daughters Caroline, Pauline and Josephine; son Norman; great-grandson John; and one great-great-grandchild. A full graveside service is at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston with Pastor James Soyk of Leland Community Church officiating. A reception to celebrate Sophia's life will follow the service in the community room at Mountain View Funeral Home adjacent to the cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of your choice.
