Joyce P. Shafer May 28, 1936 - May 24, 2017 Joyce P. Shafer, 80, of Alda, NE died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at her home with family by her side. A celebration of her life will be Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Thomas A. Ryan will officiate. A light lunch will follow the service and inturnment will be in the Alda Cemetery following the lunch. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Joyce was born May 28, 1936, at Sargent, NE. She is the daughter of Arthur A. and Bernice “Owens” Brown. Survivors of her immediate family include her stepchildren, William Dean Shafer (Janice) of Grand Island, NE Bonnie J. Giron (Jim) of Bull Head City, AZ Joseph J. Shafer of Wellsville, KS Arvilla H. Hieb of Wellsville, KS Twin sister Joy A. Brown of Cozad, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Joyce grew up in Sargent graduating from Sargent High School in 1956. She married William R. Shafer on July 29, 1986 at Smith Center, KS. They lived in Alda. Joyce was a waitress at the Union 76 Truck Stop for years and later waitressed at Coney Island. Mr. Shafer died June 15, 1988. Joyce was thankful for her neighbor and good friend Tom Molczyk who looked after her. She enjoyed time spent with family and the company of her dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William R. Shafer, sisters, Jeanette L. Mach, Mabel Dobrovsky, stepson, Troy H. Shafer and grandson, Nathan R. Shafer.
