"Gary D. LeGrande, 75 years, of Fremont, NE died May 20, 2017 at his home, just as he wished, with his wife, sons, and close family members at his bedside. He had fought cancer 6 times since 2001, however, he knew this one was terminal. Gary fought for 4 years and 39 days, a very tough battle, but sadly the cancer won. At the end, his goal was peace, and he finally found it May 20th. Gary was born May 5, 1942 in Morse Bluff, NE to Wayne and Ruby (Roumph) LeGrande. He spent several years in Fremont, North Bend, and Omaha, NE. In 2000, he was transferred to Detroit, MI for 2 years, and he spent 8 1/2 years in Northern Chicago, IL before return to his home in Fremont in 2013. Gary was married on September 1, 1961 to Jane Ann Brown from Indiana. They were united in marriage at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in North Bend, NE. Gary was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church all his adult life. Besides his life with his family, Gary was an avid (53 years in the same seats) season ticket holder of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and had missed only a few games, no matter where he was living. Gary is survived by his wife, Jane; 4 sons, Mike (Brandell) LeGrande, Jeff LeGrande both of Kansas City, MO, Rodd LeGrande of Denver, Co and Greg LeGrande ; 10 grandchildren, Corbin, Abbey, Zach, C.J., November, Morgan, Amanda, Kayla, Taylor, and Ethan. Gary cherished his role as a grandparent every day since July 7, 1989. He is also survived by brothers, Harold (Eileen) LeGrande of Lincoln, NE and Dennis LeGrande of Schuyler, NE; sisters, Donna Bone of Lincoln, NE, Janice (Clyde) Wilkie and Sharon (Don) Sawtelle both of Fremont; and Pat Moeller of Hooper, NE. Gary was the construction superintendent on multi-million dollar jobs for Clark Construction Group of Bethesda, MD for a period of 14 years until he was forced to retire with stage 4 bone cancer in 2013. He spent 1 year on the Federal Courthouse in Omaha, NE. He was at the General Motors Complex in Warren, MI on a new 1 million square foot office building for 2 years. He was then transferred to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Northern Chicago, IL for 8 1/2 years, where they completed $850 million dollars worth of work. He was then sent to the FBI building in Detroit for a total building make-over, and finally back to Chicago on the Argonne Federal Laboratories. Gary was a foreman or superintendent for various companies for 30 years in Omaha prior to his employment with Clark Group. He loved what he did, and always looked forward to the next project. Gary was very good at his craft, and was very respected in the construction world. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathy LeGrande. Funeral Service will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fremont, NE. The Rev. Dan Heuer will officiate. Visitation, will be Wednesday from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Private burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Cedar Bluffs, NE. The family would like you to honor their wishes, only Jane, her sons, her grandchildren and their parents to be at the burial. In Lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church. Jane and her family would like to give a grateful thank you to all of the caregivers Gary had over the years, especially Emily and Alyssa, and special recognition to our neighbors and our close friends for their support."
