Bio

David Valasek, 55, of Grand Island died Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Restoration Worship Center. The Rev. Jonathan Gonifas will officiate. Cremation will follow the service and burial will be at a later date. David was born Sept. 17, 1961, in Fullerton to Allie and Mary Louise (Knapp) Valasek. He grew up near Dannebrog and in Grand Island. He attended Centura in Cairo, Jefferson, Barr Middle School and Grand Island Senior High, graduating in 1980. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Tew on April 10, 1982, at Grand Island Church of God. The couple then lived in Grand Island. He worked for Anderson Radiator for 32 years and then at CHI Health Center for the past five years. David was a member of the Church of God and enjoyed helping others and serving God. He also enjoyed yard work, playing with his grandchildren, going to Disney World, spending time with family, going to the beach and Husker football. Survivors include his lifelong companion, Carolyn Valasek of Grand Island; children, Sam (Kellie) Valasek of Jacksonville, Fla., and Alisha Valasek of Grand Island; grandchildren, Keaton Rosete and Malika Thornton of Grand Island, Ethan and Brielle Valasek of Jacksonville, Fla.; and brothers, James (Debbra) Valasek of Grand Island, Larry Valasek of Grand Island, Victor (Adel) Valasek of Elkorn and Bill (Patti) Valasek of Westcliffe, Colo. David was preceded in death by his parents.
