Louise Valasek, 81, of Grand Island died on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Golden Living Center-Park Place. A celebration of her life will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. She was cremated. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Valasek was born on March 7, 1932, near Palmer to Charlie and Maxine (Fleshman) Knapp. She married Allie Valasek on Aug. 17, 1953. He preceded her in death. Survivors of the immediate family include five sons and three daughters-in-law, Victor and Adel Valasek of Elkhorn, Larry Valasek of Grand Island, Bill and Patti Valasek of Loveland, Colo., James and Debbra Valasek of Grand Island and David Valasek of Grand Island; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jerry and Marilyn Knapp of Palmer, John and Nancy Knapp of Grand Island and Don Knapp of St. Paul. Other survivors include Alfred Valasek of Genoa and Mike Valasek of St. Paul. Additional family include a sister-in-law, Josephine Knapp of Grand Island; nine grandchildren, Aaron (Tricia), Jennifer, Kristi, Justin (Jessie), Chase (Shannon), Jacob, Josh (Jen), Sam (Kellie) and Alisha; 12 great-grandchildren, Lillian, Cailyn, Dominic, Easton, Ethan Gregory, Carson, Hallee, Keaton, Malika, Ethan Allen, Brielle and Greyson, and another on the way. Louise grew up on a farm near Palmer and attended school through the eighth grade. Her life revolved around helping her parents on the farm, butchering beef, pork, poultry and canning garden produce. Louise and Allie lived and farmed north of Palmer and also northwest of Dannebrog. There they spent most of their time farming, raising a family and entertaining many family gatherings. Allie and his brothers were often the center of attention, providing music on accordions, violins and banjos. The Valasek family moved to Grand Island in 1970 and lived in the same house for 43 years. Louise worked part time at the Lutheran hospital, L&L Distributing of Wheelers, Rainbow Bakery and Pioneer Seed Corn. She took great pride in planting flowers in her big yard and filled the hours with puzzle books, embroidery, craft projects and time at her sewing machine. Allie and Louise planted a huge garden for many years, canning the produce every summer. Louise was a hard-working woman who spent her life caring for others, and her greatest accomplishment was raising five sons who carry on the Valasek name. In addition to her husband, Louise was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Knapp of Grand Island; one sister, Charlotte, and her husband, EugeneTrebilcock, of Longview, Wash.; and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Knapp of St. Paul.
