PARENTS: Lee and Kathryn Yoder MARRIAGE: Grace Toineeta DATE: June 15, 1957 (Per Stone) OBITUARY: Rodney Lee Yoder, 79, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2015 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Rod was born August 20, 1935 in Oregon City, OR to Lee and Kathryn Yoder. He attended Barlow Elementary School and Canby High School. He then went to trade school to become a welder/boilermaker. He moved to Seattle, WA to take employment in the shipyards there. While there, a working buddy of Rod’s told him he needed a girlfriend and introduced him to Gracie Harris. They hit it off immediately and began to date. Rod had a red and white 1954 Oldsmobile and Grace always knew when Rod was coming to see her by the rumble of his car approaching. Rod and Gracie were married in the Methodist Church in Seattle on June 15, 1957. On their way to their honeymoon, they got pulled over by a policeman for driving too fast. The policeman let them go with a warning. A little over a year later, their daughter, Natalie, was born, followed by Daniel and John. Rod worked many jobs in the construction field, traveling to various places such as Alaska and Georgia. In the summer of 1974, Rod and Grace moved to Finley, WA when Rod became employed at the Hanford site. Rod was able to retire in 1995 at the age of 60. He became very active in his retirement with his other loves which included fishing, gardening, and attending classic car shows and drag races. He volunteered at Finley Baptist Church, doing the mowing and helping friends with the use of his little tractor. Rod was a member of Hillspring Church in Richland and also attended the cowboy church. Rod Yoder is survived by the love of his life, Gracie Yoder; children, Natalie Hieb (Jeff), Dan Yoder (Linda), John Yoder (fiancée, Tina); grandchildren, Stephen (Chantal), Benjamin, Curtis, Kristen, Nathan, Chelsea, Erik, and Nick; great grandchild, Benjamin; and sister, Beverly (Richard) Boyle. A celebration of Rod’s life will be held Saturday, June 20th at 10 am at Mueller’s Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 10th and Union, in Kennewick, WA. A potluck lunch reception will be held afterwards at the home of Jeff and Natalie Hieb in Pasco. Cemetery Details: Desert Lawn Memorial Park (Source: Muellers Funeral Home Obituary)
