John Rush, section 4, Benton Twp, was born in Blount Co, TN, 4/25/1824, a son of James and Mary Caylor Rush. When he was about 14 years of age(1838), his parents moved to Madison Co, IL, and in the spring of 1846 he came to IA, and entered 80 acres of land in Jefferson Co, IA on which he lived till February 1854, when he moved to Wayne Co, IA and bought 220 acres which is now his homestead, all but twenty acres of it being wild land. He was married in 1850 to Eleanor J. Allen, and to them were born ten children, seven of whom are living, Mary, Annie, James, Warren, Charles F., Edward C. and Margaret C. Mrs. Rush died in 9/1870 and in 1/1872, Mr. Rush married Malinda A. Callaway, widow of Charles Callaway and daughter of Oliver Marshall. They have one child-Carl D. Rush. Mrs Rush had 4 children by her former marriage; but one is living-William O. Mr.Rush was born in Blount Co, East Tennesee in 1822. He removed to IL in about 1840, to Jefferson Co, IA in 1850, and to Benton Twp, Wayne Co in 1853 settling on the farm where he lived until 1899 when he removed with his family to Humeston. Mr. Rush was a highly respectable citizen and a successful farmer, notwithstanding he was for years afflicted with sore eyes. Our acquaintance with him began in 1865 and we always regarded him as an honorable, upright, conscientious gentleman.
