Bio

Rhoda Marian Bjerke Bloomfield Gilliland was one of seven children born to her parents. Her brothers are Lee Evans Bjerke, Grant Vernon Bjerke, William Wallace Bjerke. Her sisters are Avis Winnifred Bjerke, Eileen Virginia Bjerke Kindler, Betty Bjerke Butler. After attending Billings Business College in Billings, Montana, she worked as a secretary for Taggart Contruction Company and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and as a bookkeeper for Ben Franklin Store. She met Rex Gale Bloomfield while living in Cody, Wyoming and they were married 28 September 1940 in Billings, Montana. Rex and Rhoda lived in Elk Basin, Wyoming and Oregon Basin, Wyoming where her husband worked for the Ohio Oil Company. When her husband was transferred to Grass Creek, Wyoming, they made their home in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Rhoda loved to cook and to read. She served in her church as an Education Counselor, Relief Society President, Ward Librarian and Spanish Name Extractor in her ward while living in Thermopolis. While her husband enjoyed camping and fishing, Rhoda would often take a book along to read while he fished. Rhoda was very supportive of her husband whether it be camping, wood working, his employment or church work. Rhoda met her second husband, Robert Arthur Gilliand, while delivering Meals on Wheels to Robert and his wife, Emma Alline Ward Gilliland, for the Senior Center in Thermopolis. Following the death of both their spouses they were married on 15 April 1992 in Thermopolis, Wyoming. Following Robert's death, Rhoda sold her house in Thermopolis and moved into an apartment in Cody, Wyoming so she could help take care of her sister, Eileen. Rhoda lived in her apartment until she was no longer able to live alone and in December 2015 she moved to the Long Term Care Center in Cody, Wyoming. She was loved by all her extended family.
