Bio

He was baptized on August 9, 1880 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Dubina. Schulenburg Sticker, 06 Aug 1959 Frank J. Kocurek Succumbs In Dubina Frank Kocurek, 79, life-long resident of the Dubina community and father of Frank Kocurek of this city, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Monday in the family residence that was his birthplace. He had suffered a stroke twelve days earlier. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, July 29, at the Hubbard Funeral Home in Weimar with continued services at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church at Dubina. Msgr. A. F. Drozd and Rev. Thomas O'Callaghan officiated. Burial was in the Dubina Catholic Cemetery. The deceased, a retired farmer, was a member of the Dubina Catholic Church and the last surviving charter member of the Dubina SPJST Lodge, which he had served as treasurer for many years. He was born July 25, 1880, as the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kocurek, who were among the earliest to settle in the 103-year-old community. After completing the church school at Dubina, he entered St. Edward's University at Austin to study music and accounting and was graduated from there in 1898. He was a well known musician in Dubina's prospering days and gave private music lessons. He was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Sassin at Dubina on May 28, 1907. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Agnes Kocurek of Dubina; three sons, Frank Kocurek of Schulenburg, Joe and Alphonse Kocurek at home; six daughters, Mrs. Lidge (Martha) Hranicky, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Hranicky and Mrs. Daniel (Viola) Holub, all of Wallis, Mrs. Adolph (Josephine) Hajovsky of Caldwell, Mrs. Leslie (Agnes) Kosarek of Houston and Mrs. Jerry (Elsie) Kalina of Moulton, and twenty four grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Emilie Sacky passed away in 1951. Pallbearers were Lidge Hranicky, Richard Hranicky, Daniel Holub, Adolph Hajovsky, Leslie Kosarek and Jerry Kalina.
