They had an appliance store, a plumbing and electrical company. However, the heart of the family operation has always been Holub's 5 & 10-Hardware. She has been in front of and behind the counter and wherever she was needed. Viola knew as much about plumbing and electrical as any contractor and knew exactly what the customer needed. Operating the store for 72 years, she has helped many generations of shoppers. Widowed in 1984, she continued to live and serve the community of Wallis, until last year when her health started to decline. Besides working in the family businesses, she took great pride in her large family and enjoyed visiting and traveling the world with them. The son-in-laws always looked forward to her bringing her homemade sauerkraut, kolaches and apple strudel to family gatherings. Besides baking, Viola also enjoyed gardening, canning fruit and vegetables, sewing, quilting and visiting with family and friends, cane pole fishing, and taking occasionally road trips to Louisiana as she refers to them as her "therapy" sessions. She was a woman who excelled at everything she did or tried. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
