ORD — Norma Adeline Swanek Norman, 92, of Ord passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell. Mrs. Norman bequeathed her body to Creighton University Medical in Omaha for medical research. A memorial service will be held at Creighton University at a later date. The Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Norma Adeline was born May 18, 1924, to Charles J. and Mary L. (Rovensky) Blaha. She graduated from Ord High School in 1941. On Dec. 31, 1945, Norma was joined in marriage to Chester P. Swanek at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. To this union two daughters were born, Sonja Maria and Sharon Zae “Corky.” The couple owned and operated Swanek Heating and Air Conditioning in Ord until Chet’s death in October of 1975. Norma married Lyle W. Norman on Nov. 10, 1980, and they continued residing in Ord until his death in 1986. Norma spent her entire adult life in Ord and was a “lifetime learner.” She enjoyed crafting, reading, sewing, camping and especially current events. A willing volunteer to community organizations, she contributed her time to her church, the OHS Alumni Committee, Valley County 4-H and the Girl Scouts of America, both as a local leader and District Committee member. She also volunteered for several years as the “Monday Librarian” at St. Mary’s School, affording students an opportunity to enjoy a scheduled, weekly trip to the school library during regular classroom hours. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sonja and John Jacobsen of Mankato, Minn., and Sharon “Corky” and Galen Michalski of Ord; four grandchildren, Kate (Dave) Lawler, Nancy (John) Riens, Jack (Katie) Jacobsen, and Joe Michalski; and four great-grandsons, Jake, Ben, Nate and Drew. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Chet Swanek and Lyle Norman; and her sister and brother-in-law, Lydia (Blaha) and R.J. Pharis.
