Bio

Maurice Garris, 82, of Salem died Monday. He was born in Sargent, Neb., and graduated from Sargent High School in 1935. In 1946, he moved to Washington, where he worked on a fruit ranch for a year. He returned to Nebraska and ran a service station and repair shop in Comstock. In 1954, he moved to Scottsbluff, Neb., and was a truck driver for 10 years. He also worked for American Colloid and Floyds. In 1991, he moved to Salem. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Moose in Scottsbluff and the director of the Sargent School Board for many years. He married Evalyn. She died in 1990. Survivors include his son, Craig Garris of Salem; sisters, Helen Brush of Grand Island, Neb., and Luella Gibson of Topeka, Kan.; and three grandchildren. Services will be 6 p.m. Friday at Virgil T.
