Bio

Please note name change, I'm certain when we checked the proof copy of the obit Mae was spelled correctly, guess someone thought it was a mistake. Lora May Stone, age 104, of Bradley, Arkansas, quietly slipped from this world to begin anew on Monday, September 19, 2016. Mrs. Stone was born October 23, 1911 to Della and John Hunter in Mabank, Texas. She was a resident of Bradley for almost seventy years. Known to some as “Stone” and affectionately to her grandchildren as “Granny Stone”, she was a wonderful old fashioned cook that made the best homemade biscuits with no shortening, something taught by her mother during the depression when such luxuries were scarce. In her younger years, she sewed for family and others and could make a dress pattern from a picture. She was considered by some as a very wise old owl and many found her very easy to confide their hearts to her. If you were not captivated by her sweet smile, you could be caught by the accompanied twinkle in her eye. In her lifetime, she never learned to swim but bravely climbed into a paddle boat to paddle about the lake with kids and grandchildren. She also never learned to drive but was an excellent backseat driver with no need for speed but yet climbed onto the back of a motorcycle for a terrifying ride with her grandson. Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Noble Stone; sons, J.W. Burns, Everett Burns, Jesse Burns, and Jack Stone; two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Givens of Cypress, TX, and Janis Kirwan and husband, Leo of Aransas Pass, TX; brother, John Hunter, Jr. and wife, Dorothy of Mabank, TX; sister, Dorothy Stovall and husband, Bill of Point, TX; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Robbie Stone Miller. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Bradley, AR with Bro. Gladney Hunt officiating.
