Thanks to contributor #46873059 Funeral services for Mr. John A. Janda were held Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence. The Mass of Christina burial was con-celebrated by Rev. Loras Grell and Rev. Dennis Hunt. Assisting with the services were: Organist: Kristin Kohmetscher and Carolyn Mazour; Vocalists: Laurie Kohmetscher and Larry Hubl; Servers: Shane Kohmetscher and Jeff Hubl; Lector Duane Kohmetscher and Alcolyte, Allen Ostdiek. The Offertory gifts were presented by the children and spouses of John while the grandchildren, spouses, and great grandchild each presented a red rose with the resulting bouquet decorating the altar for Mass. Casket Bearers were: Tony Chadwick, Brian Janda, Doug Ramig, Philip Janda, Jamie Couch, Cody Jana, Brent Janda, Brad Janda. Honorary Casket Bearers were: Theresa Dose, Rene' Ostdiek, Julie Dahlinger, Tricia Monke, Shannon Sholtz, Sara Griffis, Amber Janda, Luke Sholtz, Amy Long, Stephanie Janda, Kimberly Janda, Keith Janda, Halee Kohmetscher. A Scripture Service and the K C Rosary was held Friday evening at Sacred Heart Church. Burial was in the Sacred Heart parish cemetery east of Lawrence. John Albert Janda was born on March 25, 1918 to Albert and Clara (Jirousek) Janda near Lawrence, Nebr. He entered into eternal rest following a battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at his home in Lawrence. Mr. Janda attended country school through the 8th grade and worked on the railroad before returning home to farm. He married Rose Marie Hubl at Sacred Heart church (sic) on February 26, 1946. They farmed and had cattle and a dairy on their farm east of Lawrence until moving into Lawrence in 1986. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church (sic), the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Workman. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather, giving testimony to living out the ideal of a Catholic gentleman, not only to his family, but also to the community and area whose respect he had earned by the virtues he exhibited throughout his life. His practical and hard-working life was best displayed by the quote on the funeral program which the family shared with all. "Dad's advice on life....'The secret to shucking corn is to keep throwing it in the wagon.'" Mr. Janda was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Clara Janda; one sister: Eleanor Petr; two brothers: Edward Janda and Theodore Janda and one granddaughter: Jacqueline Janda. John is survived by his wife: Rose, of Lawrence; three daughters: Patricia and husband, Jerry, Chadwick of Aurora, Nebr.; Ellen and husband, Rodney, Ramig of Mitchell, Nebr.; Laruie and husband, Duane, Kohmetscher of Lawrence; four sons: Robert and wife, Brenda, of Lawrence; Ronald and wife, Carolyn, of Lawrence; Stephen and wife, Susan, of Guide Rock; Thomas and wife, Barbara, of Lawrence; one sister: Margaret Hubl of Trenton, Nebr.; 23 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
