Bio

Last week the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Porter Long, living on the Will Stanton farm on Davis creek, swallowed a bean. Medical aid was at once summoned, but nothing could be done to extricate the bean. It lodged in the passage to one lobe of the lung and put that organ out of use. From the start the child showed strong symptoms of strangulation and great effort was necessary to get its breath. This condition grew worse and worse till death came three days later. The agony of the helpless parents must have been intense during this awful ordeal, and surely the sympathy of all who knew of the suffering child must have been with it and the family. The little one died Friday and was buried Saturday. An effort was made to get a specialist up to operate on the child, but he refused to come, saying nothing could be done. The child was too young to endure the operation and the nature of the ailment would of itself make the use of anesthetics dangerous. The Ord Quiz - Thurs, Oct 15 1908, Pg 5, Col 2
