Bio

Jack W. Griffin, 80, of Whitney, passed away Dec. 4, 2006. Chapel services will be 2 p.m. Dec. 7, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Jack Weldon was born in Rosser, Texas, to the late Oston and Allie Ann Griffin. He served in World War II under Gen. Patton's Third Army in Germany. After his military service, he lived in Dallas and then moved to Whitney in 1960. On March 23, 1963, he married Marie Karlik at Latham Springs. He retired from Mopar Chyrsler Corp. and in past years, he was active in all activities in Whitney. He served on the Whitney School Board, Lake Whitney Association, Lions Club and was a member of the American Legion Post #522 in Whitney, and at this time, was a board member of Sun Country Chapel, Whitney, TX. He was a long time member of King Memorial United Methodist Church in Whitney. Jack will be remembered by his family and many friends as a happy person who enjoyed his life and was a good friend to everyone he knew. He and Marie have been spending the summer in Ft. Davis for the past 21 years. He enjoyed his RV life with his many friends in Ft. Davis, and also Bloys Church Encampment the first two weeks of August every year. He was a truly beloved person, his faith in Jesus Christ was the guidepost from which he lived his life. He loved his family and friends and will live forever in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his sister, Floy Jones; and brothers, Dewel, Vernon, Ray and Joe Edward Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Whitney; daughter, Rhonda Mangold and husband, Glenn, of Southlake; stepchildren, John Hejl, of Fort Worth, Joyce Hejl, of Fort Worth, Michael Hejl and wife, Marianne, of Whitney, Nancy Zotz, of Benton, Ark; grandchildren, Glenn Mangold, III, Colton Mangold, of Southlake, Paul, Ryan and Jeffery Zotz, of Knoxville, TN., Melonie Hejl, of Whitney, Matt Hejl, of Whitney; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Louise Clark and husband, Robert "Bob", of Whitney; sister-in-law, Irene Griffin, of Rosser; nephews, Olen Jones and wife, Peggy, of Georgetown, and James Griffin, of Weatherford; nieces, Bobbie Teague and husband, Joe, of Fort Worth, Faye Heard and husband, Elmer, of Rosser, Mary Burt and husband, Don, of Rosser, Jean Marsh and husband, Perry, of Hurst; and a host of other relatives.
