Arlene Marilyn Johnson, 80, of Bagley, MN died on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Sanford Fargo Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Clearwater Lutheran Church in Shevlin, MN with the Reverend Jeremiah Holst officiating. Visitation will be 90 minutes prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Clearwater Lutheran Cemetery in Shevlin, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements. Arlene was born on August 10, 1936 at Bemidji, Minnesota, the daughter Rudolph and Bertha (Olson) Wiese. She attended school and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1954. Arlene worked at the Bemidji Bakery and at Jud’s Resort. She married Howard Johnson on November 2, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bemidji, MN; a church that her Grandfather started.Arlene became a farmer’s wife, driving tractor, milking cows and cutting lumber at the sawmill. Arlene enjoyed family, and had 13 brothers and sisters - 10 of which lived with 4 sets of twins. She gave her children three sets of grandparents, her maternal and paternal and adopted grandparents, Charles and Mary Eddy. Many family members lived with the family; parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. Everyone pitched into help hay, pick rock, fence, shock oats, thrash, cut and carry wood, and care for their 2 acre yearly garden. Arlene and Howard raised Holstein cows, pigs and chickens and occasionally ducks, geese, goats and 2 horses. Arlene was very talented and could make something from nothing, especially in cooking and sewing. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, crocheting, cooking, bird watching, collecting family photos, quilting, playing cards, visiting on the phone and writing letters and making notes. She read every night before bed. Arlene loved listening to gospel and country music and treasured spending time with her mother-in-law Hester Johnson. She planned Wiese family picnics and family get togethers, she was the Sunday School treasurer, a member of the ladies aid, Women for Dairy and the Irvin Blix American Legion Post #16 Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling to many places when they no longer were farming. They traveled to Mobile, Alabama; West Burke, Vermont; the Peace Garden, Yellowstone Park, the Black Hills, Little Big Horn, MT; Glacier National Park; Branson, Missouri; Thief River and Diamond Point Park. Often times they traveled with their good friend Irene Davis. Arlene is survived by her husband – Howard Johnson of Bagley, MN Daughter – Diane E. Johnson of Tucson, AZ Son – Rodney (Rachel) Johnson of Shevlin, MN Son – Robert (Diane) Johnson of Bagley, MN Son – Ronald Johnson of Valborg, MT Brother – Leroy (Parry) Wiese of Mobile, AL Brother - Keith (Janet) Wiese of West Burke, VT Brother – Douglas Wiese of Bemidji, MN Brother – Paul (Susan) Wiese of Bemidji, MN Sister – Pauline (Bob) Wilcowski of Pennington, MN Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers – Jerome Wiese, Kenneth Wiese and Marvin Wiese; Sister Lois Wilcowski; granddaughter – Amy Pullar; Dear friends – Irene Davis, Mangeline Kirkeby, Alice Erickson and Ethlyn Hermanson.
