ABILENE, TX - MARITA A. BLACKWELL, 89, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Bethel Assembly Church with Cody Cochran and Greg Goza officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home. Born September 24, 1926 in Shamrock, Marita was a daughter of the late William Tom and Jessie (Pike) Smith. She married Henry Allen Blackwell November 16, 1948 in Carlsbad, NM. They moved to Anson in 1964. Marita worked as a RN for Hendrick Medical Center, West Texas Medical Center, Humana Health Care System and for Anson General Hospital. She was a Baptist. Marita was preceded in death by her husband (Henry Allen Blackwell); two daughters (Donna Blackwell and Jan Blackwell); two sons (Jack Henry Blackwell and Roy Lester Blackwell); two brothers (Joe Paul Smith and Don Thomas Smith); and three sisters (Madeln Banks, Adelon Armstrong and Ladon Emmert). Survivors include two daughters, Jane Whitehead (and husband, Ronny) of Hodges and Sue Chaka (and husband, Ted) of Abilene; four sons, Danny Blackwell (and wife, Peggy) of Coleman, Max Blackwell (and wife, Janice) of Snyder, Don Blackwell (and wife, Cathy) of Springtown and Bob Blackwell (and wife, Karen) of Colleyville; one brother, Pike Smith of Amarillo; two sisters, Billie Matlock of Denver, Co and Nan Mauldin of Albuquerque, NM;15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Family visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Adams-Graham Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be given to Anson Meals on Wheels, 1225 Ave. J, Anson, TX 79501.
