Bobby Glen Pettiet, age 76, of Breckenridge, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at his residence. His family is confident he is with the Lord today, healthy and happy. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Lakeside Baptist Church with Pastor Glenn Clark officiating. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. in Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, at Morehart Mortuary. Bob was born March 3, 1940 in Morton, Texas. Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elner Tucker Pettiet. They were married on Dec. 21, 1957, at Hurlwood Baptist Church. Bob was a farmer, fisherman, bear hunter and antique car enthusiast. He was a big fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. Watching college sports was a favorite pastime. Bob farmed for 49 years, mostly cotton. He farmed in Portales, New Mexico, the Mississippi Delta, Clarksville, Texas and the South Plains area around Lubbock. He retired in 2007 and continued to enjoy the outdoors by working for Muleshoe Ranch in Breckenridge. There he enjoyed feeding the bull herds and making pets out of many of them. (The bulls were sometimes ornery. He liked that trait in most everything and everyone, including himself.) Bob loved his family, especially his grandkids. They called him Egad, a name started by his oldest grandchild when she was barely old enough to talk. Elner called him Bobby when she wanted to capture his attention. Bob enjoyed all his family, and he knew that life was precious; believing that you needed to slow down enough to make time for people you loved. He kept flowers and trees growing around the home because Mom always had flowers growing. He planted roses, zinnias, pine trees, fruit trees, and strawberry plants, along with whatever else Elner wanted to see in the yard. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Breckenridge. His church family was important to him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin Pettiet and Willie Marie Hastey Pettiet; two infant sons, Michael and Dennis; his brother, Benjamin Franklin Pettiet, Jr.; his sister, Venita Fern Pettiet Blair; two brothers-in-law, Roy Blair II and Dale Rankin; and one sister-in-law, Iris Cox Pettiet. He is survived by his wife, Elner; his daughter, Lisa Michelle Pettiet Arnold and husband Benjamin Arnold; his son, Bobby Scott Pettiet; his daughter-in-law, Dusty Damron Pettiet; his grandkids, Whitney Elizabeth Williams Roach and husband Jon Roach, Haley Nicole Pettiet Thompson and husband, Jacob Thompson, Natalie Christine Williams, Devon Scott Pettiet and fianc , Kayleigh Roberts, Michael Nicholas Benjamin Arnold, Meichell Jasmine Arnold, and Megan Mercedes Arnold; his beloved surviving siblings, Linda Pettiet Rankin and Joe Verle Pettiet; and many precious nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Research and may be left at Morehart Mortuary.
