Waxahachie (tX) Daily Light, March 8, 1955, p. 2 (extracted from Hastings and Dunavant families research records of Ruth Hasten Walsh) Last rites for Columbus P. Humphries were conducted at the Christian Church in Rockett Sunday with Rev. McCowan officiating. Burial was in Bells Chapel cemetery under the direction of the Rudolph funeral home. Mr. Humphries, who died Saturday, was born on March 14, 1874, at Spartanburg, N.C. and moved to Red Oak in 1897. He had lived in the Red Oak and Rockett communities since moving to Ellis county. He was married to Miss Isabel Jolly in 1896 and was a member of the Methodist church. Survivors include his widow of Rockett; three sons, H.C., R. c. and L. A. Humphries, all of Rockett; four daughters, Mrs. Clara Farrar, Mrs. Hanna Hastings, Mrs. Valore Dunavant, all of Rockett and Mrs. Ila Halgwood of Lancaster, two brothers, George Humphries of San Antonio and D. C. Humphries of Santa Anna; a sister, Mrs. Arkie Morgan; five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren...... Pallbearers were Jack Morgan, Bennie Humphries, R. C. Johnson, Vernie Humphries, Herman Scruggs, Wayne Farrar, Lamber Humphries and Sam Jolly.
