Cherokee Daily Times: March 11, 1964: Page 2 Charles R. Leonard, son of Daniel A. and Agnes (Fannan) Leonard was born April 26, 1894 at Spencer, la and died Feb. 27, 1964 at Cherokee following an extended Illness. He was married to Mary E. Pitts at Visitation Church in Maryhill on Aug. 30; 1932. They were the parents of two children. In 1961 he moved to Cherokee from Waterloo where he had lived for over 50 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Holy Name Society; Catholic Order of Forresters and Cedar Valley Stamp Club: He was employed as a salesman. Survivors include his wife, Mary; 1 son, William D. Leonard of Santa Ana, Calif., one daughter, Mrs. Burdett N. (Alice) Hall of Waterloo; and six grandchildren. One brother, William C. Leonard of Waterloo, also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister who died in infancy. Officiating at the funeral services at Immaculate Conception Church here on March 2 was the deceased's nephew, Rev. Dale George of Granville who was celebrant of the Requiem High Mass. The eulogy was given by Father E. D. Thorn, pastor of I. C. Church. Other pastors attending were Rev. John Scnissel of Akron and Rev. William Carel of Maryhill. Burial was at Maryhill Cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Robert and Roy Messerole; Carl, Larry and William Pitts and Derald Zimmer.
