Mathis, Buzek, and Broadway were married names. Averill Hoffman, age 92, passed away peacefully July 19, 2016 in Bastrop with family at her bedside. She was born June 11, 1924 to George and Bertie Lee (Salinas) Hoffman in Bastrop. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joe Buzek; and daughters, Patricia Mathis and Sandra Herrington. She is survived by daughter, of Rockdale, 3 sons, sisters Yvonne, Vennia, and Elizabeth, 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Averill served as secretary for the Coastal Plains Baptist Area Missionary Office in Wharton, TX while raising her children. After which, she was a housewife who enjoyed sewing, piecing quilts, jigsaw puzzles, gardening and canning. Her family was her joy. Many memories were made with family activities such as garage sales – both buying and selling – and family gatherings. Her father was a carpenter. The 1940 census recorded Averil Hoffman, 15, living in Wharton County, Texs, with father George, mother Birtie L., and 6 younger siblings.
