Roy Jones Oct. 29, 1936—Nov. 2, 2006 Roy A. Jones, 70, of Barron died Nov. 2 at his home. Funeral services were Wednesday morning at the First Baptist Church in Barron, with the Revs. Darrel Robinson and Kenneth Winchester officiating. Burial, with military rites accorded by the Barron American Leggion Post 212 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8338, was at Wayside Cemetery in Barron. Mr. Jones was born Oct. 29, 1936 in Slaton, Texas, to Virgil and Leona (Dickerson) Jones. He graduated from Slaton High School and then served in the Army and later earned an associate degree in fire science at Midland College in Midland, Texas. On Aug. 13, 1980 he married Gail Kolb at San Angelo, Texas. Mr. Jones worked for the San Angelo Fire Department for 23 years and retired in 1989. The couple moved to Barron that year, and Mr. Jones worked for Barron County Day Development and taught fire science for WITC from 1989 until his death. He was a member of the Cameron Fire Department, a training officer for the Barron Fire Department and a past member of the Chetek Fire Department. Mr. Jones was president of the San Angelo Firefighters Union for 17 years and vice president of the State of Texas Firefighters Union for 11 years. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Gail; two daughters, Kristina Waggoner of Edina, Minn., and Tammie Hoes of San Angelo; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, William of Slaton; and two sisters, Alene Latham and EttaBelle Millikin, both of Slaton.
