W. L. OWENS, NOLAN COUNTY, SUCCUMBS Divide, Feb. 19 - Funeral for W. L. Owens, about 55, a farmer in this community for 10 years who died Friday night, was held at 3 p.m. today at the Baptist Church. The Rev. Dean Elkins, pastor, conducted services. Owens had been in ill health several months. He was an active worker in the Baptist church. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Ryle Owens and Lynon Owens; and a daughter, Mrs. Lonnie Lewis, all of Divide. Some list him as William Owens, others list him as Willie L., etc. I find that the census enumerations never list the Lafayette middle name. Although I am not related, I have no earthly idea where this middle name comes from! At any rate, Mr. Owens' name is listed as WILLIE LEE OWENS in his wife's obituary, his name is shown as simply W. L. on his death certificate and obituary, and his military draft registration lists him as William L. Owens with his signature as W. L. Owens.
