MRS. OWENS DIES AT AGE 83 Mrs. Elizabeth M. Owens, 83, longtime employee of Mack Eplen's here, died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at Hendrick Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at South Side Baptist Church. Dr. H. O. Wynne, pastor and the Rev. Melvin Byrd, pastor of Nolan Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Slaters Chapel Cemetery at Nolan, directed by North's Funeral Home. Born April 5, 1891 near Macon, she married Willie Lee Owens on Aug. 9, 1908 in Macon. The couple moved to Nolan in 1929 where she lived until 1939. Her husband died Feb. 18, 1938 and Mrs. Owens moved to Abilene the following year. Mrs. Owens was employed by Mack Eplen's for 17 years until 1970. She had lived at 758 Poplar St. for several years until just recently when she went to live with her son, Lynon Owens at 3472 Santa Monica. She had been in ill health since December, 1973. She was a member of the South Side Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lonnie Lewis of Nolan; two sons, Lynon of Abilene and Ryle of San Angelo; a brother, C. W. Satterwhite of Mt. Pleasant; four sisters, Mrs. B. H. Henley of Mulshoe, and Mrs. Herman Crain, Mrs. Syble Orren and Mrs. Morris White, all of Mt. Pleasant; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Frank Altom, Harry Hale, Jack Scott, W. C. (Bill) Maupin, L. C. Scales, Jr., M. E. Mayfield and C. L. Langford. The family requests that any remembrances be made in the form of contributions to favorite charities.
