George Monroe VanHook of Hamilton Avenue in Somerset, Kentucky, died after an illness of three months. He was 96 years old. He was the founder of the G.M. and Son Lumber Company. He was a member of the Duke Memorial Baptist Church. He was survived by his children, Mary Foreman of Middletown, Ohio, Nanny Jones, Stella Shriner, and Lela Conners, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Eva Byrd, Marshall VanHook, Nelson VanHook, Mrs. Ruth Pike, and Lloyd W. VanHook, all of Somerset, Kentucky, Vola VanHook of Eubank, Kentucky, and Mrs. Alice Wynn of Greenville, South Carolina; his sister, May Harvill of London, Kentucky; 30 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin VanHook and Helen (Wright) VanHook; his first wife, Hettie (Mounce) VanHook (married in 1896); and his second wife, Mary Jane (Dykes) VanHook. Funeral services were held at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Brother S.L. Sears and Reverend E.R. Prather officiating.
