C.E. Locke, 85 Dies Monday, Rites Dec. 4th Clarence Edgar Locke, 85 year old former Postmaster at Ethridge and retired store clerk, died Monday afternoon in Vanderbilt after a brief illness. He had suffered a broken hip in a fall about two weeks ago and was taken to Vanderbilt. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m., at the Ethridge Church of Christ with Jerry Corlew and E.O. Coffman officiating. Burial was in the John Lay Cemetery at Ethridge with North Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Locke was a native of this county and a son of the late Clint and Sally Hannah Locke. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was first married to Mary E. Black and after her death was married to Florence Ray, who died several years ago. He is survived by five children; four sons, Edgar Locke of Jacksonville, Fla.; Frank of Columbia; Ray of Defiance, Ohio and Clinto Locke, Register of this county; one daughter, Jrs. J.C. Shelby of Mt. Pleasant. He also is survived by two brothers, Will Locke of Ethridge and Bobby Clint Locke, who is a patient in the VA Hospital at Nashville; one sister, Mrs. Madie McDonald of this city. He also is survived by ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. NOTE: The above obituary was taken from the Democrat Union, 2 Dec 1963. Clarence Edgar Locke married Florence Ray (daughter of John Almon Ray & Sarah Lavina Agnes Jane (Sallie) Huckaba 18 Sep 1915 in Lawrence Co., TN. They had 3 children: Clarence Ray (Ray) Locke, Virginia (Locke) Shelby & Eugene Clint (Clint) Locke.
