Bio
Buford L. Owen, 70, of Dimmitt, died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday at Canterbury Villa Nursing Home in Dimmitt after a lengthy illness. Services were held Tuesday in Lee Street Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Ritter, pastor officiating. Burial followed in Castro Memorial Gardens under the direction of Foskey-Flemins Funeral Home. Mr. Owen was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Breshear and moved to Castro County in 1948 from Carey. He married Virgie Maroney on Dec. 4, 1937, in Altus, Okla. He had retired from the Texas Highway Dept. 10 years ago. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by a son, Teddy, in 1958. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marcia Scarberry of Carnegie, Okla.; two sons, Roger Ray of Dell City, N.M. and Eddie of Hale Center; a sister, Floy Steed of Elm Mott; a brother, Darryl of Athens; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were George Hudson, Carl Parks, Bill Henderson, Sam Burke, Merton Powell and Ted Collins.
