Robert Gene Courtney was born on 23 Mar 1944 in Gorman, Eastland Co, TX to Peggy Jean Chandler. Rob was adopted by his stepfather, James Louis Courtney, when he was a small child. He was educated in the Dallas Public Schools and graduated from Southern Methodist University. After serving in the US Marine Corps, Rob married Susan Tabor on 3 Feb 1968 in Dallas Co, TX. Rob and Sue were the parents of Craig Robert Courtney and Colleen Suzanne Courtney. Rob worked for the Ford Motor Company in a variety of positions. The marriage ended in divorce on 9 Jun 1997. Rob subsequently worked as a Sales Manager at Maxwell Dodge in Taylor, Travis Co, TX. He married Mary Alice Trexler Owens King on 20 Mar 1999 in Travis Co, TX. Robert Courtney, loving husband, father, and grandfather, age 63, of Austin, Travis Co, TX died Sunday, 15 Oct 2006. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice King; daughter, Colleen Courtney and fiancee Scott Houston of San Antonio; son, Craig Robert Courtney and wife Rae of Ft. Worth; step-daughters, Robin Owens McClure, and Jennifer Owens Halpine and husband Jeffrey Harrison Demgen, all of Austin; mother, Peggy Jean Weddle and husband Robert of Bonham; sister, Janice Courtney Sisson of Sartell, MN; brother, James Ervin "Jim" Courtney of Bonham; granddaughters, Megan and Lauren DeVivo and Abigail Courtney; nephew, Sage Sisson and niece, Katrice Sisson. Graveside service were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, 18 Oct 2006 at Live Oak Cemetery, Manchaca, TX. A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 1201 Lavaca St., Austin, TX. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association.
